Open Kaillera

Apparently, Kaillera went open source some time ago: Open Kaillera.

Does this work? The lack of information on the website is not really a good sign. You can download the Kaillera client but there's not much explanation regarding the availability of public servers.

Emulinker

An alternative to kaillera is Emulinker. It is a server/client setup, that is you have to connect to a server to be able to play online with somebody else.

Now, I am not sure if there are Emulinker servers out there since the list of servers on the Emulinker website is desperately empty. One could certainly setup his/her own server though.

Does this work with CCS64? I really have no clue.

Ok, Anti3D is supposed to keep track of public Kaillera servers but if you go there, you get this:

Anti3d.com is currently running only one public Kaillera server using EmuLinker server software:

82.165.178.145:27888
Status: Offline

That can't be good, can it? Seems to me P2P Kaillera is the way to go, hopefully, it works.

P2P Kaillera

Since it seems that kaillera is pretty much dead: no software updates and no servers available (publicly at least), it's time to look into P2P Kaillera as a viable alternative to get that whole "Matchday 2 online" thing going.

With P2P Kaillera, there is no server to connect to (and no clients obviously), it's pure P2P (peer to peer), in other words, one person hosts and the other connects (to the host directly).

Here's a pretty good P2P Kaillera tutorial. It seems you only need to forward a single port (27886, by default) so it should be painless to use and relatively secure to operate.

Matchday 2 online

Welcome to Matchday 2 online! I am hoping to set up an online community where people can play Matchday 2 online.

There's already an Emlyn Hughes International Soccer community on the web where you can play the game online using ccs64 (the emulator) and Kaillera (the client/server software).

Well, since I am more a Matchday 2 kind of guy, I'd like to do something similar for Matchday 2. It's not that I don't like Emlyn Hughes International Soccer, I am just so used to Matchday 2 that everything else pales in comparison. My dream is to be able to play Matchday 2 against somebody else over the web and maybe, maybe organize friendly tournaments. It seems ccs64 and Kaillera enable you to do that. The snag I see is that if you have a firewall or a router (most of us do), you may have to open up a bunch of ports to let Kaillera do its thing.

Anyways, if you too would be interested, please write me a little something or post a comment right here.

I am gonna try to post about what needs to be done to get this whole thing going, in particular, how to get Kaillera working with ccs64. So, stay tuned!
